October 2014 General Conference: Elder D. Todd Christofferson

     This past General Conference, I liked the talk titled, "The Divine Gift of Repentance" given by Elder Christofferson during Saturday morning's session. Elder Christofferson began his talk with an allegory of Shakespeare's play about Henry V, and whether or not the king or the soldiers would be responsible for the outcome of a battle, The issue was never resolved in the play, but Elder Christofferson expanded on the idea in the terms of us taking responsibility for ourselves and our actions. 

     In today's society, there is a common idea that we can just act as we want and that God will still love us and we will be saved. However, this is not entirely true. I remember reading an article one time about how God is not an all-loving and accepting God, and that he wants us to be righteous so we can return to him. The argument is made, that although God is not all-accepting, he is just. He may not accept everything we do, but he does provide a way for us to redeem ourselves; through repentance. 

     In his talk, Elder Christofferson
